CID: A place for people with disabilities, their families, and friends.
CID is a regional recreation center that focuses on providing recreation programs for people with disabilities. Opened in October of 1980, it is a 15,000 square foot one story building. The original name of the CID was "Center for Individuals with Disabilities." In 1996, the CID Advisory Council recommended that the name be changed, it was felt that the acronym "CID" had become well known in the community, so a name was chosen that kept the acronym.
CID serves people with the following disabilities: physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, and mental illness. People without disabilities and senior citizens are welcome to attend many CID programs.
CID is operated under the auspices of the Authority for the Handicapped. This is a joint powers authority made up of the City of San Bernardino Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department (lead agency), County of San Bernardino Behavioral Health Department, and the San Bernardino City Unified School District.
CID focuses on the concept of "CHALLENGE-SUCCESS-ENJOYMENT"
