Adult Book Collections and Major Portion of Feldheym Library Main Floor Temporarily Closed for Skylight Replacement

March 22, 2017 

The adult book collections and a significant portion of the main floor study areas at Feldheym Central Library are scheduled to be unavailable starting Saturday, March 25th for approximately two or more weeks because of replacement of the skylight that is a significant part of the library’s roof replacement project. Adult book collections scheduled to be unavailable to the public and staff include adult fiction, mystery, science fiction and westerns; large print; adult non-fiction; and adult oversize. Paperback collections that can be browsed are also unavailable. Study space on the main floor including the four study rooms will be unavailable and the Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library ongoing book sale is also unavailable.

"Drum Song" and "An Audience with Rosa Parks"

February 13, 2017 

The San Bernardino Public Library will host a program for Black History Month on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:30 AM in the Bing Wong Auditorium at the Feldheym Central Library at 555 W. 6th Street. Teacher, Spoken Word artist, and West African dancer Makeda Kumasi, will present "DrumSong" an adaption of an African American fable which includes drum and dance. She will also present "An Audience with Rosa Parks" immediately following "Drum Song".

San Bernardino Public Library presents 'Lieutenant Flipper’s Trial'

In observance of Black History Month, the San Bernardino Public Library will host a one-act play dramatizing the fateful 1881 trial of Lt. Henry O. Flipper. The free program will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 3:00 PM in the Feldheym Central Library's Bing Wong Auditorium at 555 W. 6th Street, San Bernardino and will be presented by the play's author, Bob Rogers, a former U.S. Army Captain and combat leader during the Vietnam War in Troop A, 1/10th Cavalry.

Steel Drum Performance & Drum Circle at the San Bernardino Public Library

June 13, 2016 

As part of the Summer Reading Game theme, Read for the Win, the San Bernardino Public Library will host Joseph Peck and his music of the Caribbean. Peck will provide a general overview of the steelpan (steel drum) and its origin. He will perform on the steel drum and then attendees will have the opportunity to play a percussion instrument in a drum circle. This all-ages free workshop will take place on Saturday, June 18 at 3:00 PM in the Kellogg Rooms at the Feldheym Central Library at 555 W. 6th Street in San Bernardino.

Summer Reading Game at the San Bernardino Public Library Kicks off with 4 Events

May 26, 2016 

The San Bernardino Public Library will hold their annual summer reading program from June 4 through August 4, 2016. This year's summer reading theme is READ FOR THE WIN. Children, teens, and adults are all able to participate to win prizes. Children and Teens will earn prizes by keeping track of minutes read, activities completed, and library events that are attended. Adults will be entered in drawings each time they visit the library and check out books and will also receive extra entries for attending library programs.

San Bernardino Public Library Seeking Book Donations

The Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library welcome donations of used books and other materials such as videos, CDs, and DVDs that are in good condition. The Library staff will evaluate materials for addition to the collection in accordance with the Library Materials Selection Policy. Book Discussion Group at the San Bernardino Public Library

Anyone interested in discussions of books, ideas, and current issues is welcome to attend the Literary Salon at Norman Feldheym Central Library, 555 West 6th Street, on the third Tuesday of each month. The meetings take place at 1 p.m. in the Kellogg Room A. Registration is not required. The March book selection is "First Drop" by Zoe Sharp. Musician Sean Gaskell will be coming from North Carolina to give a performance/educational demonstration on the Kora, an ancient 21-stringed harp from West Africa. He will feature traditional songs that are the heart and soul of the Koras musical repertoire, in addition to some of his own personal compositions. Villasenor Branch Library shifts to "Winter Hours"

October 26, 2015 
Hours at the Villasenor Branch Library of the San Bernardino Public Library will shift to "winter hours" beginning Monday, November 2, 2015. "The Library Board of Trustees wants the public to be able to make maximum usage of available library service hours," Library Director Ed Erjavek said in a news release. "Villasenor, which is at 525 N Mount Vernon Avenue, will now be open from 1 to 6 PM on Mondays and Tuesdays", he said. It had previously been open from 3 to 8 PM, and will return to those hours on March 14, 2016 after Daylight Saving Time returns. Hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays will remain at 10 AM to 3 PM.

Check out a Banned Book at the San Bernardino Public Library

National Banned Books Week is September 27 through October 3, 2015. Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community –- librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types –- in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship.

Youth Art Month at the San Bernardino Public Library

The San Bernardino Public Library will be hosting a drawing class by artist and cartoonist Phil Yeh in observance of National Youth Art Month in March. The class will be open to ages 10 and up. Artist and writer, Gaby Maya, will be visiting the San Bernardino Public Library on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. She will do a talk about some of the origins of manga and anime, as well as the influence of manga and anime in Mexico. Gaby says, "We have a culture here (in Mexico) where anime has been a bridge to close the generation gap between parents and kids. Because everyone has watched an anime they love, and thanks to the constant re-runs, they share it with their kids. It's something very Mexican, indeed."

Celebrate National Fire Prevention Month with a Special Fire Fighter Storytime at the San Bernardino Public Library

Santa Claus to visit the San Bernardino Public Libraries

The San Bernardino Public Library will host visits by Santa Claus at all four of our city libraries this holiday season. Participation in these events is free to the public. Children and teens will be able to each choose a free book. These events are sponsored by the Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library and by a donation from Marvel, Disney, and First Book organizations. Vital Signs

California State University professors Juan Delgado and Thomas McGovern will be presenting their new book, Vital Signs; which is a pairing of Mr. Delgado's poetry and Mr. McGovern’s photographs of hand painted signs and murals in a testament to the uniqueness found in the Inland Empire. This free program includes a PowerPoint presentation and will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Norman F. Feldheym Central Library, 555 West 6th Street, San Bernardino. Books will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.

The San Bernardino Public Library will host two performances by Broadway and film actor Duffy Hudson on Thursday, October 24, 2013. The first performance at 10:30 a.m. will be a fast paced romp through the most loved and classic works of Dr. Seuss. In the second performance at 6:00 p.m. that evening, Duffy Hudson brings his talent and fascination for Edgar Allan Poe to life in this unique one-man play.

San Bernardino Public Library to Host Mystery Author Jeri Westerson

The San Bernardino Public Library will host a presentation by Inland Empire award-winning author Jeri Westerson on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Feldheym Central Library at 555 W. 6th Street, San Bernardino. Westerson writes the critically acclaimed Crispin Guest Medieval Noir mysteries. Her brooding protagonist is Crispin Guest, a disgraced knight turned detective on the mean streets of fourteenth century London; encountering thieves, kings, poets, and religious relics. Her books have garnered nominations for the Shamus, the Macavity, the Agatha, Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice, and the Bruce Alexander Historical Mystery Award.

The verses of the "Tao te Ching" written over 2500 years ago in ancient China by a philosopher named Lao Tzu offer us a different way to think as we navigate our way through this ever more chaotic world. The keys to the nature of existence and the meaning of life lie in the words of the "Tao te Ching".This ancient philosophy is comprised of 81 verses of poetry that will be presented in its entirety in a spoken concert by local author and veteran actor Robert J. Harper, quoting the verses of the "TAO de Ching" as translated by Dr. Wayne Dyer in his work Change your Thoughts, Change Your Life.
