Fred Shorett, a 3rd-generation San Bernardino resident and small businessman, was elected to represent the citizens of the 4th Ward in a Special Election in March of 2009. He received more than 72% of the total vote. He was re-elected for the 4th time in November 2018.
When elected in 2009, Fred brought over 40 years of local business experience to the City Council. He was a partner and served as Executive Vice President and General Manager at Crown Printers for over 25 years. His is currently a self-employed small businessman in the printing and packaging industry. Fred also possesses a California Real Estate license. He served over 23 years as a member of the Supervisory Committee at the Arrowhead Credit Union.
Fred is a Combat Infantry Veteran who served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War 1969-1970. He was awarded two Bronze Stars; the Army Commendation medal; several Air Medals, and is a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Fred achieved the rank of E5 Sergeant during his time in the military.
Fred has been active in many local community organizations. He currently serves as Board Vice President for Housing Partners One and is an Advisory Board member of the Salvation Army. His previous civic leadership roles include board member positions for the Little League Post 777; San Bernardino Montessori School; San Bernardino Executive Association; Lighthouse for the Blind, to name just a few.
Fred graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1967. He attended San Bernardino Valley College and California State University, San Bernardino. He is the proud father of two beautiful daughters and has one granddaughter and one grandson. He is married to his wife, Chris.
