Mayor Helen Tran was elected in 2022 and is serving a four-year term as Mayor of San Bernardino.

The role of the Mayor (as defined in the City Charter):

The Mayor is the presiding officer over the City Council and is recognized as the head of the City government for all ceremonial purposes. The Mayor also serves as the chief spokesperson for the City. She represents the City in intergovernmental relations and establishes and maintains partnerships and regional leadership roles to advance the City’s interests. The Mayor presides over the meetings of the City Council and participates in all discussions but does not vote except in the event of a tie, to veto an item, to appoint or remove the appointed positions of City Manager, City Attorney and City Clerk, or when applicable, commissioners, Council committee members, or board of trustees’ members. The Mayor also executes all ordinances, resolutions and contracts approved by the City Council.
