Single-family rental owners who feel their properties are in compliance with the City's property maintenance requirements may request a Self-Certification Application Packet. If their property is inspected and found to be in compliance, they may be qualified to receive a certificate that will exempt them from annual inspection fees for the next three (3) years as long as the properties do not fall out of compliance with the City of San Bernardino Ordinances and applicable laws.
Annual Self-Certification Applications for all single-family homes, duplexes, and triplexes for 2021 are currently being processed. Annual Inspection Notices to all rental properties are currently being mailed out for 2021.
The Self-Certification Program requires submittal of the Self-Certification Application properly completed along with payment of the $180 annual inspection fee. The Self-Certification Application must be returned prior to the "Approximate Week of Inspection" found on Annual Inspection Notice. Failure to complete the application, enclose $180 fee, or submit the application by the aforementioned time frames will result in a Self-Certification Denial Notice. The city will not accept the Self-Certification Application without payment of the fee.
Owners of single-family rental properties are encouraged to contact the City of San Bernardino Code Enforcement, Single-Family Rental Property Inspection Program at (909) 384-7272 for more information on the program.
We are sorry but at this time we are not able to offer an online registration and payment procedure for the Self-Certification Application.
