The Criminal Investigations Officer is a specialized non-sworn civilian investigator. These civilian investigators perform journey-level investigative duties within the Police Department's Detective Bureau and in the Traffic Bureau. A Criminal Investigations Officer has an assigned criminal caseload and is responsible for the full resolution of each assigned case. In addition to investigating cases, a Criminal Investigations Officer also prepares cases for prosecution when there is a violation of law and is expected to do follow-up investigations when additional information is needed by the District Attorney. Criminal Investigations Officers are supervised by and report to a uniformed Police Sergeant.
