Governor Newsom’s Senior Advisor on Homelessness Visits San Bernardino
Hafsa Kaka, Governor Gavin Newsom’s Senior Advisor on Homelessness, visited San Bernardino on Wednesday, October 25 to learn more about the City’s challenges, tour specific sites, and discuss current and upcoming funding opportunities that could assist the City.
Kaka met with Mayor Helen Tran, Council Members Sandra Ibarra and Damon Alexander, along with Cassandra Searcy and Ashley Esquivel from the City’s Office of Housing and Homelessness. San Bernardino County Director of Community Development and Housing Carrie Harmon also participated.
As part of the visit, Kaka participated in a driving tour of San Bernardino that included Perris Hill Park, Pioneer Cemetery, Pacific Village, Crestview Terrace, Patton State Hospital, and the future site of the City’s Homeless Navigation Center on 6th Street.
As the visit wrapped up, Kaka praised the level of coordination between the City and County to address the problem and promised to keep City and County leaders aware of upcoming programs and funding available at the State and Federal levels.
